Svenska kyrkan, Gävle parish, seeks church caretaker

Gävle parish is one of the largest parishes of the Church of Sweden.

We have over a hundred employees, and our eight church caretakers are now looking for a new colleague.

As a church caretaker, you play a key role in our operations, which are conducted in eight churches and chapels as well as parish facilities around Gävle.

We are looking for someone who is a creative problem solver with self-drive. You are practical, take initiative, and see it as natural to do your very best for visitors and the parish. We believe you have a background in some form of service profession, such as retail, reception, restaurant, hotel, or similar.

Your daily work in Gävle parish is varied and includes many different types of tasks. You prepare our churches for services, weddings, baptisms, funerals, concerts, and other activities. You handle the purchase of flowers and supplies, take care of the church's silver, textiles, and furniture, and are responsible for light indoor property maintenance. You are simply a person with an eye for environments and a good sense of service towards visitors.

Together with priests, musicians, and deacons, you help lay the foundation for our visitors to have a good experience. As we meet people in all stages of life – both joy and sorrow – your flexibility and responsiveness are important qualities. You work in a team where everyone collaborates, which requires good communication skills. When filling the position of church caretaker, we place great emphasis on personal suitability.

About the position

The position of church caretaker is full-time with a start date according to agreement. A probationary period may be applied.

Our church caretakers are scheduled according to a rolling schedule that includes evening and weekend shifts. You speak and write Swedish fluently and have administrative experience working with basic IT skills. The position also involves some heavy lifting, thus good physical condition is needed.

You will be placed in the Church Caretaker Unit in Gävle Parish, and you will primarily be based at Mariakyrkan, Strömsbro Church, and Böna Chapel. However, work occurs in all our churches throughout the parish.

A B driver's license is required for the position.

To work with us, you also need to have an interest in the mission and activities of the Church of Sweden.

Our activities involve both children and youth, who have a special status in the Church of Sweden. Therefore, the final candidate must present a criminal record extract upon employment.
